Review: “Frank Vignola and Vinny Raniolo Better Than Caffeine”

Source “Frank Vignola is well-known as one of the most amazing guitarists on today’s jazz scene. Five years ago he hooked up with a young, extremely accomplished guitarist named VinnyRaniolo. Since then they’ve worked together in a number of different group configurations but they’re at their best when it’s just the two of them, each armed with an acoustic guitar and a great desire to have a good time. And that’s exactly what they do in this studio session with jazz host, Abe Beeson. They begin with a lovely arrangement of It Might As Well Be Spring. Then they up the ante with a mash-up of Tico-Tico and (of all things) a very souped-up version of the old rock ‘n roll classic, Apache. That was just for openers. Guitarist Frank Vignola: From Metallica to Mozart and all that jazz

Recognized primarily as a world-class jazz guitarist, but well versed in every genre, his resume includes work with a range of artists from Ringo Starr to Wynton Marsalis, Tommy Emmanuel and the legendary Les Paul, with whom he performed regularly for a number of years. Vignola has recorded numerous albums, performed on countless sessions, written 18 guitar instruction books and recorded six educational DVDs. He has held hundreds of clinics and master classes and tours the world. Four legendary guitarists perform one jazz show in Salt Lake City

By Rebecca Howard – The Salt Lake Tribune Four of America’s best jazz guitarists will converge in Salt Lake City on Saturday for the Guitar Masters Summit. Bucky Pizzarelli, Howard Alden, Gene Bertoncini and Frank Vignola will bring their guitars and considerable talent to Capitol Theatre for the JazzSLC event. “I trust these four giants to do something amazing,” said Kevin Johansen, professor of guitar studies at the University of Utah. “I would go to hear any one of them individually.
